Job Requirements

  • Less than high school education or at least 10th grade education or equivalent
  • Up to one month related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Certified forklift and crane operation training

Job Duties

  • Complete safety checklist on lift truck, combi, or crane before beginning shift
  • Read pick list or follow oral instructions to ascertain material or containers to be moved
  • Flag materials designated for shipping using pick list
  • Stage materials from storage or work sites to designated area for staging
  • Consolidate material in finished goods area and scan it into location
  • Check material tag number and match material number on pick list
  • Check for proper tag placement
  • Operate forklifts, combi lifts, overhead cranes and banding equipment
  • Inspect material for defects and follow measures for scarfing, dents, rust and packaging
  • Lift heavy objects with forklift or crane and clean work area
  • Report non-conforming material to supervisor for disposition
  • Load flatbed trailers or box vans with forklift, combi or crane
  • Clean or repackage damaged bundles or bundles with rust or scarfing
  • Receive, verify and tag incoming loads
