Job Description

BlueLinx is currently hiring for the position of Material Handler/Forklift Operator at one of their distribution centers. This role is essential to the smooth operation and efficiency of their supply chain and logistics functions. As a Material Handler and Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for operating forklifts safely and efficiently to load, unload, and store building materials from trailers or railcars, while ensuring minimal damage. You will also be tasked with preparing necessary documentation for shipping and distribution, performing daily equipment inspections, maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas, and assisting with inventory counts as needed.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of recent forklift or warehouse experience
  • Ability to operate forklift safely
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to read and understand sales and purchase orders
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Qualifications

  • One year or recent forklift or warehouse experience
  • Ability to proficiently and safely use forklift to transport products, load and unload trucks
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Ability to work independently at times under pressure
  • Ability to handle physical tasks, such as lifting up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to read and comprehend sales orders, purchase orders, safety material, etc.
  • Safe work record and stable work history

Job Duties

  • Operate forklift in compliance with forklift training and safety guidelines
  • Load, unload, and store building materials from trailers or rail cars while minimizing damage
  • Store and retrieve material (piece pick and/or bulk)
  • Prepare the paperwork required for distribution and shipping of products
  • Perform daily inspection and maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in working and assigned area
  • Assist in periodic inventory counts as requested
