Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminology, sociology, forensic science, or related field
  • Five years of experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures in community engagement roles
  • Three years of leadership, budgetary, planning, and workforce management experience
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to work nights and weekends and in field environments
  • Capability to handle stressful situations and interact effectively with diverse populations
  • Commitment to agency safety rules and sustainability practices

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminology, sociology, forensic science, or related field
  • Five years of experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures in community engagement such as community policing, school resource officer, or similar civilian function
  • Three years of leadership, budgetary, planning, and workforce management experience
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to deal effectively with people and stressful situations
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contracted service providers, local jurisdiction first responders, social services providers, community groups, and the public
  • Skilled in developing and drafting clear written documents and analyses for senior and executive level management
  • Experience in developing and administering training on relevant policies, procedures, and work requirements
  • Ability to support and enhance staff performance through teaching and modeling technical knowledge, work management, communication, and conflict management skills

Job Duties

  • Manages the administration and implementation of all aspects of the Public Safety and Security Field Activity Controller program including emergency incident response, day to day operations, continuity of operations, community outreach, and oversight of training and compliance with contracted security and law enforcement resources
  • Manages work and schedules of Public Safety and Security Field Activity Specialists
  • Coaches, mentors, and trains Public Safety and Security Field Activity Specialists in inspections of contracted security and law enforcement resources, community engagement, transit operations, service disruption recovery, de-escalation, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, unconscious bias, and cultural competency
  • Develops and implements programs to enhance communications, analyze trends and potential risks, processes, or systems to suggest improvements that reduce risk to the agency and public
  • Continually reviews procedures for process improvements, recommending changes to upper management and coordinating activities within Public Safety and Sound Transit
  • Represents Public Safety and Security at community service events, external stakeholder events, internal agency meetings, and other required events or meetings
  • Champions and models Sound Transit’s core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions
  • Contributes to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion consistent with Sound Transit’s Equity & Inclusion Policy
  • Follows agency safety rules, regulations, and procedures related to assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Integrates sustainability into daily business practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned
