Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Library or Information Science, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
  • Three years of relevant experience including communications, marketing, public relations, library services, community engagement, or program coordination
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate staff
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work varied hours including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays
  • Commitment to public service and innovation
  • Knowledge of needs and interests of people of diverse ages and backgrounds

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, library services, community engagement, or public-facing program coordination
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Experience in supervising staff or leading project teams
  • Knowledge of library budgeting and basic financial practices
  • Ability to use library technology and assist patrons
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Spanish speaking is a plus

Job Duties

  • Lead planning and coordination of major library events and festivals
  • Set priorities and guidelines for consistent, high-quality programs across branches
  • Support staff as they plan and evaluate programs and events
  • Coordinate large programs that involve multiple branches or departments
  • Review and approve program content for marketing and public use
  • Serve as the main contact for Friends of the Library groups
  • Build partnerships with schools, nonprofits, cultural groups, and local agencies
  • Represent the library at community events and outreach activities
  • Work with partners to develop programs that meet community needs
  • Identify possible partners, sponsors, and grant opportunities
  • Help prepare funding applications and required reports
  • Work with leadership to expand resources to support programming
  • Lead programming and outreach services across the library system
  • Supervise managers and staff and support their planning and coordination work
  • Set priorities, standards, and best practices for library programs
  • Work with leadership on strategic goals and system initiatives
  • Coordinate with departments such as Communications for marketing and patron engagement
  • Review results and support continuous improvement of programs and services
  • Collect and review program data, attendance numbers, and feedback
  • Prepare reports showing program results and community impact
  • Manage budgets, contracts, and supply purchases for programming
