Job Description

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is responsible for maintaining and managing over 105 park locations, covering more than 3,200 acres of park property. These locations include neighborhood parks, multi-use recreational facilities, natural resource areas, special use facilities, and aquatic centers. Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, the Park Board plays a critical role in the community by providing safe, attractive, and well-maintained outdoor spaces. Job Requirements

  • minimum of one year of experience or six months city of springfield experience operating dump trucks, flusher trucks, skid-steer loaders, front-end loaders or comparable equipment
  • or one year maintenance and/or construction work comparable to parks and public works departments
  • must pass written portion of commercial driver’s license exam within 90 days of hire
  • obtain class B CDL within probationary period
  • ability to operate a vehicle with airbrakes for some assignments
  • possession of tanker endorsement or class A license for some assignments
  • obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within probation period
  • proof of united states citizenship or authorization to work in the united states
  • willingness to undergo pre-employment drug testing
  • ability to work one weekend day as part of schedule

Job Qualifications

  • minimum of one year experience operating heavy equipment or maintenance work in parks, public works, or related fields
  • ability to obtain and maintain a class B commercial driver’s license
  • knowledge of park maintenance practices
  • ability to pass written portion of CDL exam within 90 days
  • ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • capability to work a full-time, year-round schedule including weekends
  • valid driver’s license

Job Duties

  • operate and maintain heavy equipment such as dump trucks, flusher trucks, skid-steer loaders, and front-end loaders
  • perform maintenance and construction work on park facilities and grounds
  • maintain ball fields, trails, playground equipment, and pavilions
  • assist in the care of botanical gardens and trees within park areas
  • follow safety protocols and perform routine equipment inspections
  • collaborate with team members to ensure park cleanliness and functionality
  • respond to maintenance requests and emergencies as needed
