Job Description

Webb County in Laredo, Texas, is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join their Fairgrounds Maintenance team. Webb County, located along the US 59 corridor, is responsible for providing essential services to its residents, including the upkeep of public facilities that ensure community events run smoothly. Job Requirements

  • must possess a valid and current Texas driver’s license or obtain one prior to employment if holding an out-of-state license
  • must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • must pass motor vehicle record check
  • must pass criminal background check
  • able to work in various weather conditions
  • able to perform heavy lifting up to 100 pounds
  • able to ascend and descend ladders and scaffolding
  • able to communicate effectively with others
  • must comply with Webb County Civil Service rules and policies

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED preferred but not required
  • knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures
  • knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of job-related equipment
  • skill in the use of assigned equipment
  • skill in the use of hand and power tools
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and orally in Spanish

Job Duties

  • Responsible for having the buildings and grounds ready for events at the fairgrounds
  • cleans the buildings including sweeping and scrubbing floors, wiping tables and chairs, cleaning restrooms and kitchens
  • cleans outdoor restrooms and makes necessary repairs including electrical and plumbing
  • operates tractor, forklift, and other equipment as needed
  • operates basic lawn equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and sprayers
  • repairs equipment as necessary
  • picks up trash from parking lots and grounds
  • responsible for opening and closing buildings during a two-week on-call period including weekend duties
  • paints and repairs woodwork and plaster
  • sets up and operates machine tools or repairs and fabricates parts
  • maintains arena and barn areas including watering and dragging
  • assists with cleaning stalls and pens
  • responsible for equipment, uniforms, and county phone
  • operates hand and power tools
  • performs grounds maintenance duties including landscaping and irrigation
  • performs building maintenance duties
  • maintains assigned vehicles and equipment and completes inspections
  • participates in emergency management activities
  • professionally interacts with management, co-workers, contractors, and the public
  • performs other duties as assigned
