Job Requirements

  • valid and current Texas driver's license
  • pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Motor Vehicle Record check
  • criminal background check
  • ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • ability to carry heavy objects up to 100 pounds
  • ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles
  • ability to operate machinery and power tools
  • availability to work Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with occasional evenings, holidays and weekends
  • ability to obtain a State of Texas Driver's License if out-of-state license is held

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • skill in operation and maintenance of job-related equipment
  • ability to use hand and power tools
  • knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and orally in Spanish
  • experience in groundskeeping and building maintenance

Job Duties

  • prepare buildings and grounds for events at the fairgrounds
  • clean buildings including sweeping and scrubbing floors, wiping tables and chairs, cleaning restrooms and kitchens
  • clean outdoor restrooms and perform necessary repairs including electrical and plumbing
  • operate tractor, forklift, and other equipment as needed
  • mow grass, use weed eater, and spray weeds
  • repair equipment as necessary
  • pick up trash from parking lots and grounds
  • open and close buildings during on-call periods including weekend duties
  • assist customers and vendors during events
  • paint and repair woodwork and plaster
  • set up and operate machine tools, repair or fabricate parts
  • maintain arena and barn areas including watering and dragging
  • clean stalls and pens
  • maintain equipment, uniforms, and county phone
  • operate hand and power tools
  • perform grounds maintenance duties including landscaping and irrigation
  • maintain assigned vehicles and equipment including inspections
  • participate in emergency management activities as directed
  • interact professionally with management, coworkers, contractors, and the public
  • perform other duties as assigned
