Job Requirements

  • Meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable
  • possess a current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with required ratings or equivalent military certifications
  • hold a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate (Class I required at interview for initial entry)
  • maintain a documented log with minimum required flight hours
  • have at least one year of specialized experience relevant to the position
  • meet all applicable federal Time in Grade requirements by 10/10/2025
  • pass a thorough background investigation including criminal and substance use screening
  • comply with U.S. residency requirement of residence in U.S. or protectorates for at least three of the last five years or qualify for a residency waiver
  • complete a one-year probationary period for federal employment
  • disclose any recent political appointments as required by OPM

Job Qualifications

  • A current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with airplane, single engine and multi-engine land, and instrument ratings or rotorcraft helicopter and instrument ratings
  • possession of equivalent U.S. military ratings or other certificates meeting or exceeding Commercial Pilot Certificate requirements
  • a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate (Class I required by interview stage for initial entry)
  • documented log with a minimum of 1500 hours total flight time, 75 hours instrument, 75 hours night, and 250 hours pilot-in-command
  • at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
  • demonstrated expertise in aircraft maintenance inspections and flight test program advising
  • proficiency in developing flight test policies and procedures

Job Duties

  • Providing expert knowledge of rotary and fixed-wing aircraft inspections and major maintenance events
  • providing expert advice on post-maintenance flight testing and technical assistance to management readiness to flight programs
  • providing technical guidance and review of tests and workload acceptance
  • developing, writing, and reviewing flight test policies, procedures, and requirements
  • conducting flight operations in compliance with FAA regulations
  • collaborating with management on technical and operational improvements
  • ensuring safety and compliance during all flight test activities
