Job Requirements

  • Education or training in HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, or electrical trades
  • minimum of one year experience in a large facility or hotel
  • knowledge of health, plumbing, electrical, architectural, structural, mechanical, fire, and OSHA codes
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • effective communication skills in English
  • availability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
  • capability to supervise and train staff
  • physical ability to perform maintenance tasks
  • problem-solving skills
  • ability to work under pressure
  • valid certifications preferred such as CPR and HVAC
  • commitment to safety and compliance protocols

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of one years of experience in a large facility or hotel
  • relative franchise experience a plus
  • HVAC and CPR certification preferred
  • training in refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical required
  • working knowledge of health codes, plumbing codes, plant equipment, electrical codes, architectural codes, structural codes, blueprints and wiring/plumbing schematics, building code improvement, mechanical and electrical/safety systems construction, national/local fire codes, proper chemical handling and disposal, power and hand tools, meters as related to technical trades
  • knowledge of local mechanical codes and OSHA codes and best practices
  • knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to building operations
  • ability to communicate effectively in English with guests, management, and co-workers
  • ability to provide legible written communication
  • ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • ability to speak effectively before groups
  • ability to compute mathematical calculations and use measurement tools accurately
  • ability to apply common sense and understand instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
  • ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations
  • ability to interpret manufacturer's literature for installation, preparation, use and upkeep of materials and products

Job Duties

  • Ensure compliance with and completion of all daily operational procedures by the Engineering Department
  • maintain facility and grounds quality based on hotel, Shaner, and Franchise specifications
  • establish, maintain, and train standards and procedures for operations and safe working conditions in the department
  • ensure proper operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment
  • develop and implement an inspection and preventive maintenance program of all building, equipment, and guest rooms, including training of the Engineering staff
  • respond and handle all engineering and emergency related issues
  • carry out supervisory responsibilities including training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • ensure communication with Chief Engineer, General Manager, all other Department Managers, and Engineering Staff
  • anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge guests effectively
  • be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond accurately to guest inquiries
  • assist Chief Engineer with weekly scheduling and departmental meetings
  • follow up on projects and assignments given by the General Manager
  • be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
  • perform other duties as assigned
