Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • relevant experience in custodial, groundskeeping, or clerical work preferred
  • ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds for Custodian and Groundsworker positions
  • ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds for Department Assistant
  • successful completion of a fitness for duty physical including drug screen for Custodian role
  • willingness to work day or evening shifts and occasional special events
  • ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • basic knowledge of safety precautions and procedures
  • valid driver's license preferred for Groundsworker
  • strong organizational and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern custodial methods and equipment
  • familiarity with grounds maintenance procedures and gardening tools
  • ability to operate power equipment and follow safety guidelines
  • proficiency in office procedures and computer software
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
  • ability to follow oral and written directions
  • ability to work cooperatively with others
  • physical ability to meet job demands
  • successful completion of required fitness and drug screening
  • experience in custodial, groundskeeping, or administrative roles preferred

Job Duties

  • Perform routine custodial activities at assigned school or district facilities
  • sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors
  • vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets
  • clean classrooms, offices, lounges, restrooms, and drinking fountains
  • empty waste receptacles and replenish dispensers
  • replace light bulbs and perform minor furniture repairs
  • lock and unlock doors and gates and maintain security
  • report safety and maintenance issues
  • set up and clean up for special events
  • operate custodial and grounds maintenance equipment
  • plant, prune, irrigate, fertilize, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas
  • mow, edge, trim, and rake grounds
  • apply herbicides and pesticides
  • maintain records and equipment
  • provide clerical support including scheduling, filing, mail processing, and student assistance
  • prepare invoices and inventory
  • respond to inquiries
  • maintain office equipment and supplies
  • coordinate activities with departments and public
  • perform related duties as assigned
