Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • college degree preferred but combination of college work and experience considered
  • prior logistical or planning experience needed
  • transportation or logistics industry experience preferred
  • strong geographical knowledge and expertise in time and distance related to department
  • knowledge of transportation regulations
  • capable of working on multiple tasks with interruptions
  • ability to remain focused, efficient, and professional under pressure
  • willing to work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
  • capable of physical tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds
  • able to sit for extended periods working with computer equipment
  • good command of English language
  • capable of hearing, visual acuity, and verbal communication for professional interactions
  • occasional travel by air or car

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work with office equipment including computers
  • familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
  • proficiency with Excel and reporting software
  • excellent interpersonal skills with drivers, personnel, customers, and management
  • strong oral and written communication skills

Job Duties

  • Build and match planned freight to day cabs or condo trucks and drivers
  • review PTAs and driver requests for time off or home time in planning loads
  • schedule work and assign tasks to drivers
  • coordinate with others in the department for driver, freight, and asset availability
  • identify concerns with drivers needing additional support or disciplinary action
  • coordinate with Maintenance on truck service status
  • plan for future freight when available
  • track drivers, loads, and receivers to ensure dispatching runs as planned
  • coordinate backhauls to meet customer needs and maintain movement
  • maintain frequent contact with assigned drivers monitoring call-offs, fatigue concerns, and equipment issues
  • ensure trainees progress appropriately in training environments
  • ensure loads assigned to team drivers are appropriate
  • monitor Hours of Service for dispatching compliance
  • route trucks or solo drivers efficiently to terminals
  • handle urgent situations affecting on-time delivery
  • assist in orienting new drivers
  • manage unique scheduling needs or issues with coordination from supervisors and managers
