Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to operate lock and dam equipment without more than normal supervision
  • Experience corresponding to the WY pay grade levels
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting over 50 pounds
  • Ability to work varying shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to follow safety regulations and operational protocols
  • Willingness to participate in formal training and certification programs

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in operating lock and dam equipment at various levels
  • Ability to interpret technical operating instructions and safety protocols
  • Demonstrated skills in performing maintenance and repair tasks
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good physical fitness to manage physical demands of the role
  • Completion or willingness to complete IMTS Lock and Dam Operator Training and Certification Program
  • U.S. citizenship

Job Duties

  • Operate lock and dam gates and control valves that are electrically or hydraulically controlled or movable wicket-type structures
  • Provide locking instructions to vessel operators to ensure safe passage
  • Determine the safety conditions for locking crafts
  • Read, interpret, and follow operating instructions and safety procedures
  • Perform repairs and routine maintenance to maintain lock and dam operation
  • Monitor waterways and traffic to prevent hazards
  • Participate in training and certification programs as required
