Job Description

The Jr. Sous position at Urban Plates is an entry-level leadership development role within the restaurant's operations department. It is designed for team members who aspire to grow into management positions through hands-on experience and leadership training. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this non-exempt role offers a competitive pay rate of $16.50 to $18.00 per hour plus average tips ranging from $3.82 to $4.50 per hour. Job Requirements

At least 21 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
1-2 years of food service or hospitality industry experience preferred
Basic math skills
Excellent communication skills in English
Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment
Ability to manage stress and perform in a high-volume environment
Ability to problem solve
Ability to work collaboratively
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand and be mobile for extended periods

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
At least 1-2 years of food service or hospitality industry experience preferred
Basic math skills required
Excellent communication skills including verbal and written English
Bilingual Spanish a plus

Job Duties

Apply thorough knowledge, understanding and application of culinary techniques to consistently execute menu items
Monitor all meals being served for appearance, quality standards, portion control and temperature standards in accordance with the established policies and procedures
Ensure all stations are properly set prior to service and ensure sufficient supply of high-quality mis-en-place is set for the next shift
Supports a culture of safety by upholding safety standards and reporting injuries on time
Safely use all kitchen equipment and apply advanced knife skills
Assist the Chef and Sous Chef in controlling food and labor costs and purchasing, receiving, purveyor lists and inventory
Ensure meal and rest breaks are made available to team members and accurately record meal periods
Assist in establishing proper par levels of finished products and conduct inventories
Properly label, date, rotate and store all products to ensure compliance
Ensure production and merchandising area is clean, safe, and presentable
Effectively communicate with management and assist with guest and team member needs and inquiries
Utilize the point-of-sale system to accurately enter guest information and complete sales
Bag orders efficiently and neatly preserving the integrity and quality
Set the tone for the shift and assume responsibility for shift outcomes
Secure the building at closing by locking the safe, doors, and setting the alarm
Perform other job-related duties as necessary
