Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in a commercial kitchen

Job Duties

  • Cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products
  • Prepare and portion food products prior to cooking
  • Perform plating and garnishing of cooked items
  • Inspect and clean food preparation and serving areas
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperatures
  • Check freshness and quality of food and ingredients
  • Follow standard portion sizes and kitchen rules
  • Stock and maintain food product levels at line stations
  • Handle and rotate food products according to policies
  • Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking
  • Season and cook food according to recipes or judgment
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam various foods
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients
  • Portion and garnish food according to specifications
  • Observe and test foods for proper cooking
  • Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables
  • Carve and trim meats for service
  • Assist in food prep during off-peak times
  • Substitute or assist other cooks during rush periods
  • Close the kitchen following procedures
  • Attend employee meetings and contribute suggestions
  • Coordinate with fellow employees to support operations
  • Fill-in for employees as needed to maintain service standards
