Job Description

Key responsibilities include operating various kitchen equipment to prepare meals promptly and safely, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and storage areas, and ensuring compliance with all safety and food handling regulations. The successful candidate will actively participate in training sessions, assist in training other staff members, and support the College’s commitment to community and institutional values. Job Requirements

  • Current California Food Handler’s Card
  • ability to maintain good concentration while dealing with interruptions
  • ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • ability to communicate clearly using spoken word
  • ability to see and hear within normal parameters
  • ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move about
  • physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and push or pull up to 50 lbs
  • availability to work Monday through Friday from 6 am to 2:30 pm, with possible evenings and weekends
  • willingness to comply with grooming and appearance standards including hair restraints
  • commitment to safe food handling and work procedures.

Job Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and ability
  • previous experience in the food service industry is strongly preferred
  • knowledge of safe working methods and use of food preparation equipment
  • ability to read and follow recipes
  • basic math skills including knowledge of fractions
  • ability to follow HACCP, ServSafe, and PPE requirements
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • ability to provide high-quality service to customers.

Job Duties

  • Read and follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving various foods
  • prepare high-quality food items according to standardized receipts and schedules
  • operate kitchen equipment including knives, peelers, mixers, slicers, mandolins, choppers, and graters
  • use Just in Time and Batch cooking methods to assure freshness and minimize waste
  • take and record temperatures to comply with health department guidelines
  • set up and maintain food lines including water and ice containers, steam tables, and garnishes
  • check production and keep records to plan production requirements and maintain compliance
  • assist with catering production as directed
  • serve meals with correct portioning and at proper temperatures
  • clean kitchen and maintain high standards of cleanliness
  • store or discard excess food safely
  • maintain organization of refrigerators and storerooms
  • perform assignments safely maintaining a clean work environment
  • participate in training and assist with training others
  • actively support the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values.
