Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • State sanitation certificate
  • 3-4 years of advanced food service and cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to follow recipes and safety practices unsupervised
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to perform stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling, and pushing
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some holidays
  • Ability to maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to interact cordially and compassionately with senior residents

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • Training in Servsafe is beneficial
  • State sanitation certificate
  • 3-4 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience preferred
  • Experience with basic operation of kitchen equipment
  • Intermediate to advanced knife skills
  • Extensive working knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes unsupervised
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated patience and compassion for senior adults
  • Dependable, detail oriented, organized with good follow through
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, preparation, and serving principles
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some holidays

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook to order foods that may require short to mid-level preparation time
  • Prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte and may operate a grill station
  • Prepare food in accordance with federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations
  • Read food orders or receive verbal instructions and prepare food according to instructions
  • Provide high quality of service to customers
  • Follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving foods
  • Operate kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, shred, and trim ingredients
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records
  • Attend allergy and foodborne illness training and apply food safety principles
  • Receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs, and prepare meals for special diets
  • Produce batch goods using classical cooking techniques
  • Take and record temperatures and correct discrepancies
  • Prepare food for meals according to production sheets
  • Complete prep items and plate food with attention to appearance
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment
  • Assist with set ups and clean up serving lines and food areas
  • Comply with safety and risk management policies
  • Participate in safety meetings and training
  • Attend training programs as designated
