Job Qualifications

  • Two years of high-volume diner or restaurant experience
  • Culinary degree and one year of high-volume a la carte restaurant experience preferred
  • Food handling certification from the City of Chicago Health Department preferred
  • High school graduate
  • Ability to proficiently use various kitchen equipment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety practices
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and presentation guidelines
  • Proven ability to work efficiently during high-volume meal service

Job Duties

  • Prepare room service menu items per approved recipes and presentation standards
  • Demonstrate proficiency in sauté, grilling, broiling, frying and plating techniques
  • Operate quantity food production equipment including tilt fryer, turbo chef ovens, floor mixer, pressure steamer, combi oven, convection oven, burners, proof box, blast chiller, grill and griddle
  • Prepare hot and cold food orders ensuring quality, presentation and adherence to diet/allergy restrictions
  • Maintain proper portion control and food temperature
  • Follow food-handling and infection control procedures
  • Label, date and document leftovers and overproduction
  • Clean kitchen equipment and work areas thoroughly and safely
  • Assist in orienting new employees
  • Attend meetings and follow break schedules
  • Maintain supply levels and report workload status to management
  • Follow Best Patient Experience Philosophy focusing on food quality and service
