Job Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment requirements including criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical cooking tasks
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed
  • Basic math skills for measuring and portioning
  • Ability to adhere to food safety guidelines and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior cooking experience in a commercial or healthcare food service setting preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
  • Experience preparing special dietary meals is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness
  • Good communication skills to work effectively in a team environment

Job Duties

  • Prepares, seasons and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, sauces, stews, casseroles and other food stuffs
  • Reads menu to estimate food requirements and procures ingredients from storage, freezer or refrigerator
  • Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and steam kettles
  • Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe
  • Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meats, fish, vegetables and other foods
  • Observes and tests food being cooked by tasting, smelling and piercing with a fork to determine it is cooked and properly seasoned
  • Carves meat, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders
  • Prepare and cook meals for residents requiring special diets
  • Ensures food items are prepared in accordance with food code worksheet
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Chef, Food Service Manager or Director of Food Service
