Job Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment requirements including criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical cooking tasks
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed
- Basic math skills for measuring and portioning
- Ability to adhere to food safety guidelines and procedures
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior cooking experience in a commercial or healthcare food service setting preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- Experience preparing special dietary meals is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness
- Good communication skills to work effectively in a team environment
Job Duties
- Prepares, seasons and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, sauces, stews, casseroles and other food stuffs
- Reads menu to estimate food requirements and procures ingredients from storage, freezer or refrigerator
- Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and steam kettles
- Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe
- Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meats, fish, vegetables and other foods
- Observes and tests food being cooked by tasting, smelling and piercing with a fork to determine it is cooked and properly seasoned
- Carves meat, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders
- Prepare and cook meals for residents requiring special diets
- Ensures food items are prepared in accordance with food code worksheet
- Performs other related duties as directed by the Chef, Food Service Manager or Director of Food Service
