Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience preferred
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including nights weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Previous cooking experience in a similar role preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow recipes and standard cooking methods
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience with commercial kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of portion control and food presentation
  • Basic math skills for measuring and inventory
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Cook meats fish vegetables soups and other hot food products prior to cooking
  • Prepare and portion food products before cooking
  • Inspect and clean food preparation areas and equipment to ensure safe sanitary handling
  • Ensure correct food storage and cooking temperatures by regulating kitchen equipment
  • Maintain freshness of food by quality checks and stock rotation
  • Follow standard portion sizes cooking methods quality standards and kitchen policies
  • Ensure quality of products served
  • Stock and maintain sufficient food levels at line stations
  • Handle store and rotate food products and supplies according to policies
  • Stir or turn foods for even cooking
  • Season and cook food following recipes or personal experience
  • Bake roast broil and steam meats fish vegetables and other foods
  • Weigh measure and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Portion arrange and garnish food according to recipes and serve food to servers or guests
  • Observe and test foods for sufficient cooking by tasting smelling or piercing
  • Follow proper plate presentation and garnish setup
  • Wash peel cut and seed fruits and vegetables
  • Carve and trim meats for various service styles
  • Assist in food prep during off-peak periods
  • Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • Close the kitchen following closing checklist and assist others
  • Attend employee meetings and offer suggestions
  • Coordinate with employees to meet guest needs and support restaurant operation
  • Fill in for employees to ensure service standards
  • Consult with supervisory staff to plan menus considering costs and special events
  • Keep records and accounts
  • Coordinate and supervise work of kitchen staff
  • Prepare relishes and hors d'oeuvres
  • Estimate food consumption requisition or purchase supplies or procure food
  • Butcher dress animals fowl or shellfish and cut bone meat
  • Plan and price menu items
  • Bake breads rolls cakes and pastries
