Job Description

Onion City Chicken & Oyster is a vibrant, locally-owned restaurant located in Winooski, Vermont. As part of the Misery Loves Co. We are currently seeking a dedicated and talented Line Cook to join our kitchen team full-time. This role is essential to anchoring our dinner service, which runs 4-5 nights a week. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced kitchen setting and is passionate about maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and kitchen operations. You will be responsible for preparing menu items according to established recipes and quality standards, ensuring that dishes are delivered simultaneously in a timely manner that meets our guests’ expectations. This position requires collaboration with other kitchen staff to maintain smooth workflow and contribute to ongoing improvements in quality and efficiency.

The Line Cook will take ownership of station setup and inventory management, maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, and operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a line cook or similar kitchen role
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a line cook or in a similar role
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Familiarity with industry best practices and kitchen sanitation standards
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, days, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to learn and grow

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and quality standards
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies
  • Ensure food comes out simultaneously, in high quality, and in a timely manner
  • Comply with sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash
  • Assist with inventory management and report any shortages or issues
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to improve food quality and efficiency
  • Adhere to portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
