Job Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
  • at least 6 months experience in a similar capacity
  • able to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers
  • able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds
  • able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • reliable transportation to and from work
  • able to work shifts on evenings, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
  • at least 6 months experience in a similar capacity
  • able to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers
  • knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • ability to follow recipes and cooking techniques
  • basic knife skills and kitchen equipment knowledge
  • teamwork and cooperation skills

Job Duties

  • Cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other hot food products
  • prepare and portion food products prior to cooking
  • perform food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing
  • follow health department guidelines for food handling and storage
  • prepare food in a timely fashion
  • maintain cleanliness and food safety in food preparation areas
  • regulate temperature of cooking equipment to ensure proper food storage and cooking
  • check food freshness and rotate stock
  • properly label prepared food and discard after seven days
  • comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen policies
  • follow food specifications and report discrepancies
  • maintain food product levels at line stations
  • handle and store food products according to restaurant policies
  • turn or stir foods for even cooking
  • bake, roast, broil and steam various foods
  • weigh, measure and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • arrange and garnish food according to specifications
  • observe and test food doneness
  • follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up
  • wash, peel, cut and seed fruits and vegetables
  • carve and trim meats
  • assist in food prep during off-peak times
  • substitute for other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • close kitchen according to checklist
  • check out with Manager at end of shift
  • attend employee meetings and provide suggestions
  • coordinate with staff to meet guests' needs
  • fill in for employees to ensure service standards and operations
  • consult with supervisory staff for menu planning
  • estimate food consumption
  • plan specials and coordinate with management
  • check party sheets and prep food accordingly
