Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • culinary arts or culinary apprenticeship preferred
  • one or more years of experience cooking in a fast paced, cook to order kitchen preferred
  • one or more years of experience with scratch cooking preferred
  • sauté and/or broiler experience preferred
  • ability to read, write and understand English to direct, manage, hire and train kitchen staff, complete requisitions, read recipes and communicate with other employees as well as residents and their guests
  • sufficient manual dexterity of hands and arms in order to use all kitchen equipment and utensils
  • ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull and work continuously without sitting for extended periods of time
  • ability to lift or carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • ability to perform all essential functions within varying temperature ranges

Job Duties

  • prepare and cook various food items including meats, vegetables, potatoes, bread products, and desserts
  • ensure quality and quantity of food prepared meets community standards
  • maintain cleanliness and organization of cooking station
  • follow recipes and cooking techniques such as sautéing and broiling
  • model professional, friendly, courteous, and timely service in line with The Sterling Touch®
  • collaborate with kitchen staff and communicate effectively with residents and guests
  • adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines
