Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three years high volume cooking experience
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic
  • Ability to understand measurements and conversions
  • Food handlers/ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain training
  • Ability to plan and organize work
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet
  • Ability to initiate and implement necessary plans for food service
  • Ability to supervise

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
  • Ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet
  • Food handlers/ServSafe certification, training provided if needed
  • Ability to initiate and implement necessary plans to assure proper food service for breakfast, lunch, dinner, catering and special events
  • Ability to supervise
  • Minimum of three years high volume cooking experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • College preferred but not required

Job Duties

  • Prepares all required food products as scheduled to include regular breakfast, lunch and dinner service and any catering or other special functions using production sheets and approved recipes
  • Follows proper handling, preparation and holding guidelines, takes temperatures at regular intervals and maintains foods in sufficient quantities while minimizing over-production and waste
  • Properly presents all food items to provide maximum appeal and freshness
  • Follows HACCP procedures and practices
  • Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensures supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
  • Maintains kitchen sanitation and equipment cleaning schedule
  • Ensures proper communication with service personnel on proper portioning, plating, garnishing and presentation of food items including information on special diets as needed
  • Communicates appropriately with all food service staff and supervisor and listens effectively
  • Performs any duties as required
  • Maintains assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position
