Job Requirements

  • Wisconsin residency required
  • ability to perform medium to heavy physical work
  • ability to push carts weighing up to 500 pounds
  • ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds
  • ability to stand and/or walk up to 100% of an eight-hour shift
  • ability to twist, stoop, bend, reach, climb stairs, and move in tight spaces
  • ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
  • ability to distinguish colors, taste, and smell
  • pass criminal background check
  • pass pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test
  • legally authorized to work in the United States at time of application

Job Qualifications

  • food preparation and general cooking
  • experience following food safety and sanitation standards
  • experience using recipes, units, and measurements
  • effective communication as a team member
  • experience in quantity cooking
  • ability to manage time and workload independently
  • experience using and adjusting standard recipes
  • knowledge of therapeutic diets preparation
  • completion of food safety training course such as ServSafe Certification

Job Duties

  • perform quantity cooking for the Veterans Home
  • prepare entrees, sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts and other foods for general and modified clinical diets
  • follow nutrition, cooking techniques, food quality, safety and sanitation standards
  • guide the work of food service assistants
  • ensure proper food presentation, flavor, texture and consistency
  • use appropriate preparation methods to preserve nutrient content
  • maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen
