Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- must have current certifications in Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding/Water Park Training, CPR-PR, and AED
- minimum 12 months experience in aquatic instruction
- demonstrated knowledge or experience with pool chemical testing and maintenance
- valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance if personal vehicle is used for work
- must pass background check and fingerprinting
- ability to pass a proficiency test
- comply with Borough bloodborne pathogen exposure control program
Job Qualifications
- Eighteen years of age at time of employment
- possess and maintain certification in Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding/Water Park Training, CPR-PR, and AED as recognized by the American Red Cross or equivalent
- minimum of 12 months of experience in a formal aquatic instruction environment
- demonstrated understanding of pool chemical requirements or 3 months of experience in testing and maintaining chemical balance
- valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under Borough insurance program
- knowledge of basic pool operations and water testing
- ability to use small hand/power tools for routine and preventative maintenance
- knowledge of State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation health code regulations
- ability to maintain courteous and tactful public interactions
- basic computer skills including Word, Excel, email and other MS Office programs
- ability to operate a point of sale computer system
- ability to wear a respirator and pass a physical
Job Duties
- Perform lifeguard duties, enforce facility rules, regulations and policies, supervise and respond directly to all manner of emergency situations
- assist in the recruitment of subordinates, provide onsite technical direction of work to lower level positions
- provide routine clean up, sanitation, and general maintenance in the facility
- perform State of Alaska required pool water testing
- calculate, mix and add chemicals while wearing required safety gear
- responsible for opening and closing facility as required
- complete daily attendance and revenue reports as required
- balance change fund and reconcile with deposits at the end of shift
- assist in planning and implementing special events and programs
- handle cash, make change, and operate a credit card machine
- answer phones and customer questions about programs
- prepare daily and monthly lesson plans for all learn to swim classes
- serve as point of contact for swim lesson questions, evaluate and recommend swim levels to new students and resolve customer concerns regarding swim lessons
