Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation and parks management, recreation and leisure studies, or related field
  • five years of related experience
  • five years of supervisory experience
  • valid Georgia driver's license
  • ability to work non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to respond to emergency and after-hours calls
  • regular and predictable attendance
  • cooperative teamwork skills
  • ability to operate vehicles safely as per ACC policy

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks Management, Recreation and Leisure Studies, or related field
  • five years of related experience
  • five years of supervisory experience
  • valid Georgia driver's license
  • certification as CPRP preferred
  • knowledge of public administration and government regulations
  • proficiency with computers and software
  • strong organizational and budget management skills
  • ability to develop and implement policies and plans
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to manage multiple duties under deadlines

Job Duties

  • Develops department mission, goals, objectives, long-range and strategic plans
  • coordinates with affiliated non-profit agencies, government agencies, directives, and the community
  • coordinates department services with other divisions/departments/agencies
  • conducts regular division administrator staff meetings and approves recommendations
  • serves as advisory member of various inter-governmental steering committees
  • coordinates implementation of internal and external events like holiday luncheons, parades, and festivals
  • attends and conducts presentations for civic meetings and youth organizations
  • oversees development of public arts program
  • attends department director and Mayor & Commission meetings
  • monitors programmatic needs including summer camps
  • edits department publications and communicates with media
  • recruits, hires, supervises and evaluates staff, handles employee concerns
  • develops annual operating and capital budgets
  • develops and administers department policies
  • manages grant applications and monitors grant performance
  • produces annual and statistical reports
  • inspects department facilities and oversees security functions
  • serves as contracting officer for design, engineering, and construction contracts
  • oversees county-wide greenway and rail-to-trail network development
  • consults with other jurisdictions on facility design and programs
  • oversees facility master planning and development
  • negotiates legal agreements and contracts
  • develops proposals for SPLOST/TSPLOST projects
  • collaborates on stewardship of natural areas and facilities
  • negotiates real estate transactions for park acquisitions
  • recommends government ordinances
  • stays abreast of industry trends and legal matters
  • enforces regulations and educates the public
  • composes correspondence, reports, and presentations
  • performs other related duties as assigned
