Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of GED, HiSET or TASC certificate
- Two years of experience as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program
- Certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period
- Licensure and certifications must be kept current as condition of employment
- Ability to travel between various recreation centers
- Availability to work part-time, on-call hours generally Monday to Friday afternoons and early evenings
- Must possess valid work authorization for employment in the U.S.
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of GED, HiSET or TASC certificate
- Two years of experience as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program
- Certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or before probation completion
- Experience coding in Scratch or willingness to learn
- Experience teaching STEM to youth aged 8-18
- Experience working with youth in informal instructional settings
- Experience with community outreach and collaboration
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Publisher, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Instruct small groups of youth in building and coding LEGO Robotics using LEGO Spike Prime kits and tablets
- Lead the FIRST LEGO League team in the fall and a scrimmage LEGO League team in the spring
- Facilitate the robot building process in adherence with the FIRST LEGO League rulebook and requirements
- Facilitate participants' development of an innovation project related to the year's theme
- Coach participants on approaching challenges and project requirements
- Attend scrimmages, workshops, and tournaments with the team in a coaching capacity
- Travel between recreation centers with equipment to implement programming
- Set up and clean-up before and after classes
- Manage administrative tasks including responding to emails and reporting attendance
- Develop meaningful connections with youth, parents, and recreation center staff
- Assist in training additional staff in LEGO Robotics basics
- Conduct outreach events and recruitment in the community
- Attend meetings up to two times monthly
