Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- minimum 3 years experience as porter or janitor
- relevant experience with families or homeless population preferred
- ability to wear PPE and work safely around hazardous materials and environments
- availability to work holidays and weekends
- ability to lead and provide technical support to a porter team
- strong communication skills
- physical capability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks

Job Duties
- Maintains the interior and exterior of the Family Shelter at the highest standard of excellence
- sweeps and mops interior spaces, maintains wood floors, vacuums carpeted areas
- completes janitorial work including trash removal, cleaning bathrooms, refilling bathroom items, cleaning kitchens, hallways, stairwells, common areas, offices, storage, and machinery rooms
- keeps sidewalks and other exterior areas clean and free of debris
- performs seasonal tasks such as shoveling snow, salting and sanding sidewalks
- performs minor repairs such as fixing leaky faucets and changing light bulbs
- identifies larger repair needs and generates work orders for maintenance team
- adheres to confidentiality protocols outlined by the agency
- wears appropriate PPE to prevent injury and avoid hazardous materials contact
- provides leadership and training to porter team
- supports maintenance staff with painting, repairs, and other onsite needs
- represents Lutheran Social Service of New York’s mission, values, and ethics, upholding agency Code of Conduct
