Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum three years working in a high volume commercial kitchen or catering operation
  • current valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record and reliable vehicle
  • able to transport food in your vehicle
  • able to drive for pick-ups and deliveries
  • able to read, speak, and understand directions in English
  • able to take direction and assist with meal planning and/or preparation for 500 plus meals daily according to schedule
  • must be able to work weekends and holidays as necessary
  • able to maintain a pleasant attitude and a customer-service orientation at all times
  • must have California Food Handler's Certificate
  • may need to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less on an intermittent basis

Job Duties

  • Prepares and serves all menu items using established departmental policies and procedures
  • assist Food Service Manager with menu planning and coordinate the purchase of food and supplies
  • check temperatures on all food and equipment and review cook's tasks for completions
  • assures presentation of all menu items adhere to established standards
  • assures menu items are prepared in sufficient quantities to satisfy volumes
  • efficiently handle produce and perishables to minimize spoilage and waste
  • prepares and presents all food in accordance with city, county, state and federal regulatory guidelines for a Food Service facility
  • serves food during the service window in a friendly and efficient manner
  • serves food in proper pre-determined portion sizes
  • serves food that is the correct serving temperature and quality
  • sets up, maintains and breaks down serving table/line if available
  • receives and stores deliveries
  • cleans kitchen and/or cafeteria including serving area continually
  • maintains cleanliness of food storage and refrigeration areas
  • maintains appearance of all equipment and serving counters
  • disposes of expired or near expiry products
  • loads and unloads meal containers and other freight as assigned
  • properly secures loads for safe transport and to prevent damage
  • regularly checks Agency related email, text and voicemail to stay up to date and in communication with other departments
