Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current food handler's permit
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised
  • Ability to lift or carry equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
  • Compliance with company safety and sanitation policies
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some holidays
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Ability to use basic computer functions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Current food handler's permit
  • Training in Servsafe beneficial
  • State sanitation certificate
  • Extensive knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation
  • Proficient in multiple cooking stations such as saute, grill, salad, and fry
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and preparation principles
  • Ability to work well with residents, staff, and others
  • Demonstrates patience, compassion, and professionalism in senior care setting

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks foods for all meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events
  • Follows complex recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving a variety of soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food items
  • Produces small to large batch goods using advanced and classical cooking techniques
  • Maintains high sanitation standards, cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment
  • Takes inventory and enters production data using software as needed
  • Assists in training and directing less experienced cooks
  • Prepares meals according to standardized recipes and special diet requirements
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations
  • Plates food attractively with attention to appearance and garnish
  • Participates in safety meetings and follows risk management policies
  • Operates various kitchen equipment and ensures proper storage practices
