Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of relevant food service experience
- Experience leading or training staff
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
- Completion of required food safety training
- Ability to work under physical demands including lifting up to 62 pounds
- Ability to pass strength and agility testing
- Willingness to work varying hours based on unit needs
- Effective communication skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards
Job Qualifications
- Two years of experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
- Experience training or leading staff in a food service environment
- Experience operating standard kitchen equipment
- Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining
- Three or more years of experience in food service preferred
- Previous experience expediting and coordinating catering orders preferred
- One or more years of experience training or leading staff preferred
- Experience using Excel preferred
- Experience with catering management systems such as Spoonfed preferred
- Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision preferred
Job Duties
- Serve as the central communication point between kitchen production team, catering leadership, and delivery staff
- Review banquet event orders and ensure alignment on food order specifications, timing, and client instructions
- Relay real-time updates on production progress and event adjustments
- Conduct final checks on outgoing orders for accuracy, completeness, and presentation quality
- Synchronize preparation and packing of food with scheduled delivery or pickup times
- Ensure proper handling of hot and cold items to maintain serving conditions
- Organize orders based on event schedules or delivery routes
- Utilize tracking tools to streamline dispatch and prevent delays
- Communicate discrepancies, production delays, or client requests immediately
- Collaborate with management and staff to adjust plans as needed
- Record all daily catering orders in Excel, including event details, menu items, quantities, and service charges
- Maintain accurate records for monthly invoicing
- Serve as primary contact for student Beyond the Plate program menu ordering
- Review student orders for accuracy and completeness
- Enter student orders into the catering management system
- Communicate order details to chefs and management for planning
- Confirm and share pickup information with kitchen and students
- Monitor order status to address changes or issues
- Keep expediting and staging areas sanitary, organized, and clutter-free
- Clean surfaces regularly and maintain clear pathways
- Monitor inventory of packaging materials, utensils, and labels
- Notify management of low stock and assist with restocking
- Adhere to university policies on time, attendance, training, and compliance
- Complete and maintain required food safety training
- Perform other duties as assigned
