Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Experience using bakery equipment such as ovens, mixers, fryers, bread slicers, and cleaning materials
  • Ability to lift, twist, move and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must maintain proper signage and pricing in departmental areas
  • Ability to handle cash and various payment methods efficiently
  • Ability to respond promptly and politely to customers, coworkers, and vendors
  • Knowledge of store phone and intercom systems
  • Ability to check and record case and cooler temperatures four times daily
  • Willingness to work in an environment with heat, cold, humidity, and dust

Job Qualifications

  • Basic mathematics skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Experience with bakery equipment including oven, convection oven, mixer, fryer, bread slicer, stove, wrapper, scales, and cleaning materials
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle cash, debit/credit, EBT/WIC, coupons, and vouchers accurately
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to comprehend and provide complex verbal instructions

Job Duties

  • Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
  • Initiate and make recommendations regarding hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of Bakery Department personnel
  • Orient and train new bakery employees and retrain as necessary
  • Develop weekly labor schedules for bakery staff
  • Supervise and actively wrap, package, and sell a variety of bakery goods
  • Supervise baking of bread, rolls, buns, cakes, pies, pastries, and brownies
  • Maintain company standards for perishables, health, and safety procedures
  • Transport and stock goods within the department
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety codes, check pricing and expiration dates, and maintain organized department
  • Check, record, and retain cooler/freezer temperatures and maintenance
  • Stay updated on cleaning supplies, chemicals, and machinery
  • Accurately record customers' orders for cakes and other bakery items
  • Order bakery products and supplies to minimize out-of-stocks
  • Provide complex verbal instructions on store policies and equipment usage
  • Organize cooler/freezer/preparation areas, verify deliveries, inspect for quality and shortages, and code-date all items
