Job Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-07 grade level or equivalent
  • meet federal time-in-grade requirements for promotion
  • maximum entry age of 37 years unless exempt
  • provide copies of current firefighter-related licenses and certifications
  • maintain or obtain EMT-B certification
  • meet federal firefighter retirement provisions
  • strong knowledge of firefighting vehicle operations and hydraulics
  • knowledge of emergency first aid and HAZMAT procedures
  • understanding of building design and aircraft safety systems
  • skill in fire hazard detection and communication equipment use
  • ability to communicate effectively and provide leadership
  • able to lift and carry heavy loads

Job Qualifications

  • Specialized experience controlling or extinguishing fires
  • rescue operations experience
  • knowledge in fire hazard detection and elimination
  • operation of fire communications equipment
  • skills in hazardous materials incident control
  • experience in fire protection and prevention training
  • Fire Officer I certification
  • Fire Instructor I certification
  • Fire Inspector I certification
  • HAZMAT Awareness and Operations certification

  • Apparatus Driver Operator-Pumper certification
  • current or obtained Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification
  • ability to lead and manage firefighting crews in emergencies

Job Duties

  • Serve as lead firefighter responsible for a major firefighting apparatus and crew
  • engage in airfield and structural firefighting and rescue operations
