Job Requirements
- One year specialized experience at GS-07 level or higher
- meet federal time-in-grade requirement
- have relevant firefighting certifications
- maintain current EMT-B certification
- meet maximum entry age requirement of 37 years for initial appointment
- ability to lift and carry heavy loads
- ability to maintain good working relations
- ability to communicate orally and in writing
- ability to provide leadership under emergency conditions
Job Qualifications
- Specialized experience at GS-07 level or equivalent
- knowledge of firefighting techniques and equipment
- knowledge of emergency first aid and HAZMAT response
- skill in detecting fire hazards and operating communications equipment
- ability to provide leadership and communicate effectively
- certifications including Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, HAZMAT Awareness and Operations, Airport Firefighter, Apparatus Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper
- current Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification or ability to obtain after hire
Job Duties
- Serve as lead firefighter responsible for major firefighting equipment and crew
- control and extinguish fires in airfield and structural environments
- perform rescue operations during emergencies
- detect and reduce potential fire hazards
- operate fire communications and fire suppression equipment
- provide leadership and training to firefighting crew members
- implement hazardous materials incident control procedures
