Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of custodial experience including use of custodial equipment and basic building maintenance
- Sensitivity to diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Valid California driver license
- Acceptable driving record for insurability
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and carry 40 lbs
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel and crawl
- Ability to see, hear and communicate effectively
- Ability to work at heights and ascend/descend ladders
- Physical dexterity to operate cleaning equipment
- Freedom from allergies interfering with duties
- Flexible to work Monday-Friday 2:00 pm - 11:00 pm schedule
- Ability to supervise and coordinate custodial staff
- Ability to maintain safety standards.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience performing custodial duties with knowledge of custodial equipment, supplies and basic building maintenance preferably in public service
- Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of diverse economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Two years of experience in an office or classroom setting including assigning and training custodial staff
- Ability to direct custodial crews and ensure safety compliance
- Ability to perform custodial tasks and related maintenance
- Work well with student employees, faculty, staff and students
- Valid California driver license and acceptable driving record
- Knowledge of general custodial duties, proper cleaning methods, safety procedures and basic maintenance
- Ability to supervise staff, maintain inventory, learn classroom setup and use communication devices effectively
- Ability to meet schedules and follow district safety practices
- Physical ability to perform assigned duties including lifting and operating cleaning equipment.
Job Duties
- Recommend work schedules for morning custodial staff to the Director of Facilities and Planning
- Direct the daily work schedule and work orders for the morning custodial staff including cleaning supplies and equipment usage
- Maintain and inventory cleaning supplies, stock custodial closets, conduct annual inventory, recommend purchases
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment training, supply quotes and orders
- Receive shipments of custodial supplies, reconcile shipping documents and inventory
- Ensure safety precautions when using custodial machines and chemicals
- Assist with special cleaning projects like carpet cleaning, floor buffing and heavy cleaning
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets
- Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, burnish floors, vacuum rugs and carpets, spot clean and shampoo carpets
- Clean classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, offices, mop spills, remove gum and debris
- Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers, urinals, replenish dispensers, clean mirrors and windows
- Wash windows and walls, clean dry boards and erasers
- Lock and unlock doors and gates, maintain security, operate alarm systems and lighting
- Pick up trash and debris, clean walkways and entrances, clean trash cans and replace liners
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners, sweepers, mops and brooms
- Set up classes and events, arrange furniture and equipment
- Drive and operate District vehicles, travel between facilities to perform duties
- Assist and advise student employees, prepare student evaluations and work assignments
- Respond to emergency custodial calls
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
