Job Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or GED
must have experience as a cook preferably in senior living for fine dining
must have leadership experience
must be Serv-Safe certified or willing to complete certification within 60 days of hire
must have basic understanding of food service operations
must possess ability to read, write, and make simple calculations
must be able to learn quickly and apply principles
must be able to follow oral and written directions
must be experienced in food preparation, cooking, and estimating food quantities
knowledgeable of sanitation and safety requirements
must be able to stand for long periods and handle temperature extremes, wet or humid conditions, and noise
must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly or eight times per shift
must be able to carry heavy objects for 20 feet
must be able to pull, push, grasp, and reach adequately
must be organized and work well as part of a team
must wear designated uniform including slip-resistant footwear
must maintain good personal hygiene
must be willing to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
experience as a cook preferably in senior living for fine dining
leadership experience
Serv-Safe certified or willingness to obtain within 60 days
basic understanding of food service operations
ability to read, write, and make simple calculations
ability to follow oral and written directions
experienced in food preparation and cooking
knowledge of sanitation and safety principles in food handling
organized and able to work well with team
courteous and polite communication skills

Job Duties

Prepare and present menu items according to standard recipes
assist Dining Services Director with training and supervision of dietary staff
maintain a clean and orderly work area including floors
participate in weekly cleaning routines planned by Dining Services Director
report faulty equipment and remove broken or chipped tableware from meal service
report refrigerator and freezer temperatures twice daily and ensure recording
ensure leftover food is properly cooled, stored, identified, and dated
observe good safety practices
monitor and control portion sizes to minimize food waste
remove frozen food items from freezer for next day preparation
make menu substitutions with approval
supervise assigned duties to ensure kitchen readiness for meal service
ensure kitchen is clean and ready after evening shift
take and record food temperatures three times daily
attend required in-service and staff meetings
become familiar with residents’ specific dietary requests and needs
be courteous and polite to residents, visitors, and staff
follow confidentiality policies regarding resident information
supervise dietary staff in absence of Dining Services Director and Supervisor
assist in training new dietary employees
conduct in-services and training at direction of Dining Services Director
attend all required in-services and staff meetings
