Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three years of aircraft maintenance, repair or inspection experience
  • Valid driver's license requiring operation of state vehicle
  • Airframe Mechanic Certification
  • Certified Powerplant Mechanic certification
  • FAA Inspector Authorization certification
  • Ability to perform medium physical work including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Capacity to work in varied environmental conditions including hazardous settings
  • Willingness to wear protective gear such as respirator and hard hat
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and stand for long periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken language and hearing
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment physical and random drug testing as this is a safety impact position

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience in fixed or rotary wing aircraft maintenance, repair, or inspection
  • Valid driver's license
  • Airframe Mechanic Certification
  • Certified Powerplant Mechanic certification
  • FAA Inspector Authorization certification
  • Knowledge of FAA circulars, orders and regulations
  • Proficiency in electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of hydraulic pumps
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance methods and procedures
  • Ability to read schematic electrical wiring
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment operation and maintenance
  • Experience with mechanical repair techniques and systems
  • Familiarity with applicable industry safety standards and guidelines
  • Understanding of hazardous materials management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and calibrate electronic and mechanical components
  • Leadership skills for assigning, reviewing and monitoring work
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Skill in maintaining accurate work logs
  • Proficient in effective technical communication
  • Familiarity with applicable tools, equipment and mechanical devices
  • Ability to diagnose and repair according to standards

Job Duties

  • Serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions
  • Present workflow and operational updates to supervisor or manager
  • Provide input on team members' career conversations
  • Approve leave requests to ensure operations coverage
  • Perform aircraft annual inspections in accordance with FAA regulations
  • Inspect work performed by aircraft mechanics or contract services to certify repairs and maintenance meet standards
  • Approve or deny issuance of certificates of airworthiness
  • Examine aircraft maintenance logs and other records to verify service and maintenance
  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection, investigation, and certification records and reports
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to aircraft as assigned
  • Oversee tracking of aircraft compliance with manufacturer and FAA regulations
  • Act as TxDOT safety point of contact for maintenance team and facilities
  • Monitor operations and maintenance tasks for compliance with quality control standards
  • Establish operational processes and procedures to ensure employee safety and maintenance accuracy
  • Provide technical guidance to less tenured aircraft mechanics and inspectors
  • Perform other duties as required
