Job Requirements
- Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Availability to be called in during staff shortages, special details, or emergencies and arrive onsite within one hour
- Ability to type at least 35 correct words per minute
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Pass preliminary level 1 background check to advance to Public-Safety Dispatcher/Call Taker pre-employment testing
- Obtain CJIS certification within first six months
- Pass level 2 background check
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions
- Comply with all agency rules and regulations
- Support a drug-free workplace and consent to drug testing
- Candidates requiring reasonable accommodations must notify hiring authority in advance
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute
- Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within six months of employment
- Successful completion of preliminary and level 2 background checks
- Effective communication and multitasking skills
- Experience in a communications or dispatcher role preferred
Job Duties
- Monitor and operate two-way radio, telephone, and teletype systems
- Dispatch law enforcement officers and personnel to citizen complaints and crimes in progress
- Communicate and document messages regarding officer safety between field and base station
- Contact law enforcement administrators regarding emergency broadcasts and maintain location and status of personnel
- Operate Florida Crime Information Center / National Crime Information Center computer terminal
- Broadcast 'Be on the Look Out' alerts about dangerous or wanted criminals
- Receive and enter emergency and routine requests to and from officers
- Evaluate, disseminate, and provide criminal and confidential information to authorized personnel 24 hours a day
- Stay current on procedures, laws, rules, and regulations and share information as needed
- Handle various administrative tasks as required
