Job Requirements
- must possess or obtain valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire
- eligible driving record based on HHSC fleet management policy
- able to lift and carry 40-50 pounds
- able to push, pull, and steer loaded laundry carts weighing up to 900 pounds
- able to sort and handle laundry weighing up to 20 pounds
- able to safely operate bobtail type vehicles and mounted hydraulic lift gates
- pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks
- males aged 18-25 must be registered with selective service
- willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overtime
- must be at least 18 years of age to work at a state-operated facility
Job Qualifications
- graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
- paid or unpaid experience in performing laundry and/or sewing services
- knowledge of commercial laundry operation, equipment, laundering techniques, and procedures preferred
- ability to safely operate commercial laundry equipment
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- ability to maintain cleanliness and safety standards in work environment
- ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire
Job Duties
- attends work on a regular basis and works assigned shift schedules including overtime and extended hours as needed
- assists in overseeing the laundry process in soil sort and clean processing areas
- operates commercial laundry equipment such as continuous batch washers, presses, shuttles, and dryers
- folds linens by hand and operates folding and stacking equipment
- maintains clean and safe work environment to meet infection control and safety standards
- picks up, counts, fills orders, and delivers linens and clothing to units or departments
- participates in mandatory training and disaster response activities as assigned
