Job Requirements
- Must possess at least an eighth grade education
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public
- Must maintain care and use of supplies and equipment and maintain appearance of laundry areas for sanitation, order and safety
- Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel and handle residents based on their maturity
- Ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing laundry practices
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions concerning cleaning compounds and liquids
- Must not pose a direct threat to others' health or safety
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to speak and write English understandably
- Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must possess adequate sight and hearing or use prosthetics enabling these senses
- Must function independently with flexibility and integrity
- Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical exam
- Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly and emotional or hostile individuals
- Must be able to push, pull, move or lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry this weight 50 feet
- May assist in evacuation during emergencies

Job Duties
- Label or mark personal articles of clothing for laundry with identifying information including name, barcode or reference number as appropriate
- Record production and inventory information in accordance with facility policies (i.e., pounds of laundry, loads, etc.)
- Prepare linen and supply orders to meet established par levels as directed by the Laundry Supervisor
- Attend department and staff meetings as directed or called
- Coordinate daily laundry service with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
- Complete maintenance work orders or service tickets for malfunctioning equipment
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor
- Collect, sort and weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas
- Maintain sanitary conditions providing separation between clean and dirty items
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner
- Assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas as instructed during emergencies
- Fold, count, stack, hang and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc. to residents daily and/or as instructed
- Assist in the search for missing articles of clothing or personal items of residents and report findings
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established laundry procedures and facility policies
- Press/iron garments as instructed by supervisor
- Record billable services per facility policy
- Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from equipment or floor surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions
- Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry/linen supplies is maintained in laundry/linen closets to meet daily needs
- Attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs
- Dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with infection prevention and sanitation procedures
- Ensure assigned work areas are maintained clean, safe and sanitary
- Follow established Life Safety Code and infection control policies
- Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects and unnecessary equipment
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials
- Wear safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy objects
- Assist others in proper lifting of heavy equipment and supplies
- Maintain clean work area including supply carts and equipment
- Clean lint screen for commercial dryers at least each shift
- Keep supervisor informed of supply needs
- Maintain clear egress path as per Life Safety Code
- Report equipment malfunctions
- Knock before entering a resident's room and introduce yourself
- Turn in all found articles to your supervisor
- Assist with missing article searches
