Job Requirements

  • ability to follow precise instructions for folding and counting correct number of pieces
  • knowledge of clothes and materials when working the sewing area

  • at least one year sewing experience for sewing room
  • physical ability to lift wet or dry linen loads
  • physical ability to push and pull linen racks and bins

  • physical ability to feed folding equipment and sewing machines
  • ability to maintain a clean and safe work area
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, carry, and lift heavy and light loads

Job Duties

  • assemble racks of clean linen
  • distribute clean linen to area clinics using linen baskets
  • take orders for linen from personnel on units and by phone
  • pick up soiled linen from various hospital clinics using linen baskets
  • sort linen into like categories for eventual washing using universal precautions
  • visually inspect all clean linen for imperfections then fold and place in proper racks
  • separate missed re-wash linen
  • fold and place linens in exchange carts for delivery
  • fold pediatric patient linen and place in exchange carts
  • fold patient gowns, towels, isolation gowns, and under pads using automatic folding machine
  • sort, inspect, and patch surgical linen
  • refer damaged linen to sewing or condemn if beyond repair
  • assemble various types of kits and surgical packs with precise counts
  • assemble exchange carts with linen for units
  • perform linen return and re-assembly calculations
  • bag washed clothes and fitted sheets
  • feed linen into mechanical spreader and work on ironer team
  • count items and assemble carts with accurate par
  • separate stained, torn, or damaged items
  • make, mend, and repair drapes, specialty sheets, collars, and slings
  • make alterations for uniform fittings
  • issue uniforms to hospital employees and keep records
  • prepare identification markers
  • feed lab coats and uniforms into steam tunnel
  • sort ragged linen and maintain counts
  • pin hems and sleeves for alterations
