Job Requirements
- Minimum eighth grade education
- at least 18 years of age or possess an executed work permit
- ability to understand the English language
- ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism
- ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies personnel, and the general public
- maintain care and use of supplies and equipment and appearance of housekeeping areas
- perform regular inspections of resident rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of duties
- willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
- ability to seek out and incorporate new housekeeping methods
- ability to follow written and oral instructions on mixing cleaning compounds
- ability to relate information about a resident’s condition
- must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others
- physical ability to move intermittently

Job Duties
- Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
- report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be
- coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments
- attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called
- perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
- file complaints or grievances with your supervisor
- participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed
- attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed
- attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standard
- follow established fire safety policies and procedures
- follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies
- wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects
- ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
- keep work areas free of hazardous objects
- follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals and disinfectants
- follow policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs
- report hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor
- ensure infection control and universal precautions are maintained
- participate in appropriate in-service training for potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals
- report missing or improperly labeled hazardous chemical containers
- use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials
- follow established hand washing procedures
- dispose of refuse daily according to sanitation procedures
- coordinate isolation cleaning procedures with nursing service
- maintain adequate laundry supplies
- keep supervisor informed of supply needs
- report burned out lights to supervisor
- assist in lifting heavy equipment
- clean work/supply carts and equipment
- ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly at shift end
- perform day-to-day laundry functions
- wash, sanitize, dry resident clothing
- sort, fold, hang resident clothing and deliver timely
- remove dirt, dust, grease from surfaces using proper cleaning solutions
- discard waste into proper containers
- perform isolation cleaning according to infection control procedures
- maintain confidentiality of resident information
- knock before entering resident rooms
- honor resident personal and property rights
- inform resident when moving their possessions during cleaning
- turn in found articles to supervisor
- work in all facility areas
- move intermittently during work hours
- manage interruptions and reschedule laundry activities as needed
- handle residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under varying conditions
- work beyond normal hours when necessary
- respond to emergency call-backs
- attend continuing education programs
- handle potential exposure to infectious waste and hazardous chemicals safely
- assist evacuation of residents during emergencies.
