Job Requirements
- Must possess at least an eighth-grade education
- Must be at least 18 years old or possess an executed work permit
- Must be able to understand the English language
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions
- Must be able to follow instructions and accept constructive criticism
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies personnel, and the general public
- Must maintain care and use of supplies, equipment, and housekeeping area appearance
- Must perform regular inspections of resident rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and duty performance
- Must work harmoniously with personnel and residents at various maturity levels
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and incorporate them into housekeeping practices
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions for mixing cleaning compounds and disinfectants
- Must be able to relate information concerning residents' conditions
- Must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to speak and write English understandably
- Must cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must possess adequate sight and hearing senses or prosthetics
- Must function independently with flexibility and personal integrity
- Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical examinations
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and hostile individuals
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and lift at least twenty-five pounds
- Must assist in resident evacuation during emergencies as necessary
- Must attend and participate in continuing educational programs.

Job Duties
- Ensure that work cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
- Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be
- Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and recreational areas
- Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
- File complaints or grievances with your supervisor
- Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed
- Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as scheduled or directed
- Follow established fire safety policies and procedures
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies
- Wear and use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects
- Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
- Keep work assignment areas free of hazardous objects
- Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor
- Ensure that established infection control and universal precaution practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures
- Report missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals to your supervisor
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials and hazardous wastes or chemicals
- Follow established hand washing procedures
- Dispose of refuse daily according to sanitation procedures
- Coordinate routine isolation procedures with nursing service
- Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry supplies is maintained
- Report burned out light bulbs and other maintenance issues
- Assist others in lifting heavy equipment and supplies
- Clean work and supply carts and equipment as necessary
- Perform day-to-day laundry functions as assigned
- Clean, wash, sanitize resident clothing daily
- Dry resident clothing daily
- Sort, fold, hang resident clothing and deliver to resident rooms timely
- Remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces using proper cleaning solutions
- Discard waste into proper containers and reline trash receptacles
- Perform isolation cleaning procedures according to infection control procedures
- Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident information
- Knock before entering a resident's room
- Honor the residents' personal and property rights
- Inform resident when moving personal possessions during cleaning
- Turn in found articles to supervisor
- Work in all areas of the facility
- Move intermittently during working hours
- Manage frequent interruptions and reschedule laundry activities as necessary
- Interact tactfully with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies
- Work beyond normal hours and on weekends or holidays as necessary
- Attend continuing educational programs
- Maintain safety and sanitation practices at all times
- Assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
