Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • possession of nationally registered paramedic certification
  • completion of one full year of full time paid uniformed experience or lateral entry qualification
  • possession of IFSAC or Pro Board FF1 and HazMat OPS certifications
  • valid Washington State driver's license obtained prior to date of appointment
  • successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention training
  • achievement and maintenance of State of Washington EMS Paramedic certification
  • all vaccinations must be current
  • successful passing of CPAT test
  • passing of oral board examination with a minimum score of 70 percent
  • passing of physical examination, psychology evaluation and background check
  • submission of current driver's abstract
  • ability to perform physically demanding tasks
  • ability to operate emergency vehicles and equipment
  • ability to participate in drills and training
  • ability to maintain necessary certifications and licenses

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • possession of nationally registered paramedic certification
  • completion of one full year of full time paid uniformed experience with successful completion of the agency's training year program qualifies for lateral entry
  • IFSAC or Pro Board FF1 and HazMat OPS certification
  • valid Washington State driver's license obtained prior to date of appointment or another date set by the city
  • successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention training
  • achievement and maintenance of State of Washington certification as an Emergency Medical Service Paramedic
  • all vaccinations up to date
  • demonstrated knowledge of regional emergency medical paramedic services, protocols, regulations and techniques
  • knowledge of Bremerton Fire Department's emergency medical paramedic service policies and procedures
  • understanding of federal, state and local emergency medical and fire safety codes
  • ability to safely perform fire suppression and emergency medical and rescue tasks requiring physical strength
  • ability to operate keyboard activated automated recordkeeping and report generating systems
  • ability to train and instruct less experienced personnel in technical and procedural matters
  • ability to quickly analyze prevailing conditions and act decisively during transit and at emergency scenes with due regard for hazards and circumstances

Job Duties

  • Activates emergency medical and fire communications, equipment, apparatus, and emergency call response procedures and protocols
  • participates in mutual aid situations during major emergencies in conformance with applicable procedures
  • drives emergency vehicles, ambulances, apparatus and boats
  • operates emergency communications devices during call response operations
  • transports individuals in medical emergency distress to medical facilities
  • operates, uses and applies emergency medical protocols, suppression, medical first aid and rescue work equipment, supplies and materials
  • performs salvage operations such as seeping water and removing debris
  • writes and prepares detailed reports and takes follow-up actions as appropriate on emergency calls
  • tests, replenishes, cleans and restores equipment and supplies to immediate readiness status upon return from emergency calls
  • maintains record of activities and informs appropriate individuals of needed repairs and supplies
  • prepares pre-fire plans, information and drawings
  • maintains records and information on maps, streets, pre-incident survey data, activity counts, inspections, permits, code compliance, hazardous materials, hydrant and water system reliability, evidence
  • performs fire and complaint investigations, inspections and code enforcement work
  • participates in fire prevention, disaster preparedness, community and general department activities
  • performs community service such as school fire drills and public education programs
  • performs routine maintenance work on facilities, apparatus and equipment
  • participates in drills and instructional programs concerning station operations and changes
  • maintains required certifications and recertifications
  • participates in hospital base station meetings involving operations, training and protocols
  • participates in departmental meetings involving department operations
