Job Requirements
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license
- must be insurable
- minimum one year of landscape technician experience
- ability to perform physical labor including mowing, edging, weeding, pruning
- ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- ability to handle and apply chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides
- ability to operate various landscaping and maintenance equipment
- ability to supervise inmate work crews
- ability to perform custodial and clerical tasks
- ability to travel throughout Baldwin County
- ability to communicate effectively
- ability to work flexible hours and respond to after-hours calls
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- ability to work in close proximity to inmates
Job Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- minimum one year of landscape technician experience
- knowledge of machines and tools including their design, uses, repair and maintenance
- knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and security strategies
- proficiency in English including reading, writing, and arithmetic
- ability to operate Microsoft Office and various office equipment
- ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
- strong communication skills
- ability to work independently and follow supervisor’s instructions
- ability to manage multiple physical duties
- ability to work flexible schedules and overtime
- ability to safely operate utility trailers
Job Duties
- Mows and maintains lawn areas
- maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads
- performs routine maintenance of lawn and power equipment
- plants grass, trees, shrubs, flowers
- installs sod
- installs erosion control materials and/or landscape materials such as rock, mulch, dirt
- applies chemicals such as fertilizer, pest control, weed control throughout the grounds
- maintains and adjusts specialized landscaping care equipment and tools including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, lawn mowers, washers and other equipment as needed
- operates zero turn mowers, trucks, trimmers, weed-eaters, hedge clippers, chain saws, leaf blowers and other equipment
- performs custodial and other maintenance work including changing light bulbs, painting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, power washing, emptying trash cans, litter control, cleaning gutters
- hauls, stores, and disposes various materials and items as needed (lawn debris, files, furniture)
- opens, closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed
- performs clerical work relating to routine reports, evaluations, inventory, and work orders
- supervises inmate work crews as assigned
