Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, or equivalent
  • Minimum of two weeks training at academic institution in microbiological analysis of drinking water or 80 hours on the job training
  • 2 years customer experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze samples on weekends, holidays and on call as needed
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain compliance with NELAP certification requirements
  • Experience preparing various media types for sample analysis
  • Proven project management skills

  • Work within strict time requirements of microbiology tests
  • Excellent documentation, computer and organization skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with lab personnel and clients
  • Previous knowledge of environmental testing and compliance regulations is desired

Job Duties

  • Oversee all activities and employees of the location
  • Project management of all received samples and projects as needed
  • Analyze microbiology and inorganic testing on potable and non-potable water samples
  • Perform monthly environmental testing (water, surfaces, air) and annual calibrations
  • Receive and log potable water and non-potable water samples from clients
  • Create microbiological and chemical projects and reports and corresponding invoices
  • Prepare various media types for sample analysis
  • Submit all compliance drinking water to Oregon State Health Authority and EPA as needed
  • Answer and respond to all client correspondence via phone and email
  • Schedule all equipment calibration and maintain diligent records
  • Schedule all sample collections performed by the location
  • Consult public on testing and sampling procedures
  • Consult water systems and utilities on testing and sampling procedures
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory
  • Maintain all SOPs and training documents
  • Maintain all NELAP certification requirements including proficiency testing, internal audits, logbook audits, on-site audits by accreditation body and audit responses
  • Act as onsite Quality Control Officer
  • Maintain and organize clients chemical and sampling schedules along with bottle orders and personalized CoCs
  • Ability to analyze samples on weekends, holidays and on call, as needed
