Job Requirements

  • minimum high school diploma or equivalent GED
  • current and valid driver’s license for occasional travel between ECHN business sites
  • strong English verbal and basic writing ability
  • customer service orientation
  • computer proficiency
  • availability to work weekends and holidays
  • ability to operate lab-related equipment
  • preferred experience with Meditech and CoPath systems

Job Duties

  • answering and directing telephone calls
  • registration and ICD-9 coding
  • problem solving
  • testing-to-billing or other patient investigations
  • performing semi-technical specimen processing in Anatomical Pathology, Microbiology or Blood Bank
  • following laboratory and hospital policies and procedures
  • processing specimens according to department protocols
  • maintaining manual laboratory requisitions file system
  • documenting marker lists
  • managing telephone and personal inquiries on test results and billing
  • monitoring information systems and reporting issues
  • assembling and delivering outpatient supplies
  • sorting and delivering laboratory reports
  • telephoning abnormal results to physicians or nursing areas
  • timely delivery of specimens and notifying technical personnel of STAT requests
  • preparing specimens for reference laboratory referrals
  • verifying and logging specimen requirements
  • processing laboratory specimens including centrifuging, decanting, labeling
  • registering and labeling Pap smears and other body fluids for Cytology
  • processing and staining specimens for screening
