Job Requirements
- Must be 18 or older to operate knives, ladders, scaffolds or power-driven equipment
- Must be able to use job-related equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapper
- Comfortable working in a kitchen environment
- Must be able to follow recipes and accurately measure ingredients
- Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks
- Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
- Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
- Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
- Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
- Ability to interact with all levels of management
- Has or willing to obtain a CA Food Handler's Certificate
- Must be able to work evening shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Exposure to potential hazards with equipment and work aides
- Hands in frequent contact with water, vegetables, deli, and sushi meat while performing job duties
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Minimum 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment preferred
- Previous experience as a line cook, prep cook, or deli clerk preferred
- Possess a CA Food Handling license or ability to acquire one
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds without aid
- Comfortable working with knives and kitchen equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and customers
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately
Job Duties
- Processing, cutting, and wrapping delica items
- Maintains a well-organized back stock/cooler area
- Packaging food products
- Cook hot meals including deli and Japanese food
- Food preparation
- Follow recipes and accurately measure ingredients
- Maintain good communication with store management, associates, and suppliers/vendors
- Maintain cleanliness of the store and store upkeep
- Ensure proper presentation of delica items and assist customers
- Handle, stock, rotate and merchandise delica items
- Check product temperature to ensure freshness and quality
- Maintain knife grip to cut items to specifications
- Weigh, price, label, organize and rotate delica products per standards
- Unload deli items upon vendor deliveries
- Operate pallet jack, baler, compactor and scrub machine
- Unpack and stock delica and sushi items
- Clean and sanitize work areas
- Provide premier customer service including greeting and responding to questions
- Engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques
- Meet or exceed department sales goals
- Maintain cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment
- Participate in cross training and assist in other departments as needed
