Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to stand and be on your feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, bending, pushing, and kneeling
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to follow facility policies and procedures

  • Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively
  • Knowledge of food handling and safety regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and team members in the preparation of quality foods according to planned menus, recipes, and work instructions in a timely manner
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during scheduled meal times according to department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes
  • Follow all food safety regulations related to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area and environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking, and serving equipment
  • Follow facility uniform policy
  • Keep kitchen floors and garbage collection areas clean
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
