Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to stand and be on feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Ability to perform physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Willingness to work weekends
  • Prior institutional food service experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food preparation and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to planned menus, recipes, and work instructions
  • Ensure all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules according to department policies and procedures
  • Use kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food according to recipes and client nutritional needs
  • Follow all food safety regulations relating to sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Adhere to facility uniform policy
  • Manage garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
